The first blog

Welcome to my travel blog!  Isn't it great to have technology to keep track of your thoughts?  It will be strange being away from East Lansing and Ann Arbor for a good portion of the year, but I'm hopping I can keep track of everything through this blog.  I hope it will be fun and informative as I embark on my travels in 2012.  A few notes:

-Disclaimer: I'm not a blogger.  I don't like spending too much time looking at the computer screen (good thing I'm best friends with a computer science major! Yay Emily!).  I don't even have a smart phone.  I'm an engineer - everyone knows we can't write (very untrue by the way...shout out to the technical communications department at U of M).  However, I'm up for a challenge.  Plus, this will force me to get my thoughts down on paper (screen?).  If there are typos, grammar mistakes, or sentences that just don't make sense, I apologize in advance.  I also apologize if I'm trying too hard to be funny - I just read Tina Fey's book Bossypants, so I'm feeling inspired to write like her. Hopefully that will die down soon.

-Kudos to one of my best friends, Carrie, for coming up with the name for this blog!  My family and I were coming up with some interesting names that were just not making the cut...Thanks to Carrie for saving me with her eloquence and grace.  I actually do love Chai (my mom and dad drink chai everyday instead of coffee...we are so Indian), so it works out perfectly.

-Actually, there is a funny story about naming my blog. I was going to name my blog Traveling Karma, but I could not decide whether to blog on the the Google blogger or Wordpress. I decided to make a Wordpress blog just to see if I liked it....unfortunately the URL travelingkarma.wordpress.org was not available.  I decided to end it with my initials "sms."  To my dismay, this is what it came out to be:
travelingkarmasms.wordpress.org
You can see why I changed the name immediately.  Hope you like the new version.

I leave for India on the 7th of January...more later.

Happy New Year!
