Goa, the Land of the Beaches!

Yes indeed, we are currently in Goa and enjoying every second of it!  Goa is a small state on the west coast of India that was under the Portuguese rule for a long time.  The whole state is full of beaches, seafood, and an overall laid back atmosphere.  On Monday, we study abroadians presented our final presentations for our internship.  Except for 2 papers due in the beginning of May, we are free!  On Tuesday, we all boarded the plan and headed to Goa for a celebratory end of program trip.

When we got to the airport, we randomly started talking to this French girl, Livia, while we were waiting for our bags.  She had been traveling to India and was going to Arambol, a northern beach, by taxi and wanted to know if we wanted to share one with her.  Having literally no plans whatsoever, we said why not?  So, off we went to Arambol.  This beach is a bit more quiet and not as touristy.  We are staying in a little guest house right off the coast for Rs. 200 per night per person (that is ~4 USD for your reference!).  So far we have been doing a whole lot of nothing!  Perfect!  Everything is sandy and our room smells permanently of bug spray and sunscreen...sounds like beach life.

Today, we rented scooters (pretty popular thing to do here) and went to south.  The scenery in Goa is wonderful.  There is ocean on one side, and many little freshwater lakes on the other side.  Fishing is a huge industry here, so fishing boats are a common site.  We passed little fish markets, schools, and beautiful templs and churches.  Being on a scooter is such a liberating feeling and a great way to see the area.  Maybe a bit dangerous, okay...but SO fun.  Don't worry, I'm a great driver.

My internet is so slow, so it will take 3 days to load one picture.  I'll be sure to keep giving updates now and post a bunch of cool pictures when I am back in Delhi.

Off to the beach now!
