After taking our flights from our respective cities, Michelle and I both ended up in Seattle. Thanks to Emily for picking us up from the airport! We made it back to Emily and Caroline’s apartment in Capitol Hill…I should really say “Cap Hill” to stay true to the local lingo. Their apartment is wonderful and their location is amazing – only a 10 minute walk to downtown, right by the highway, and close to all the major buses! Rock on!

We first started our adventures with a bus ride and exploration of the University of Washington (more lingo = “U Dub”) Street Fair. They had artwork, food, and music along the main road right by the campus. What could be better than live music, friends and a big skewer of BBW meat and veggies? We also got to walk around the campus, which is lovely by the way. Many of the flowers were in bloom and the campus seemed like an oasis from the city. Funny story: We also randomly met this guy at the street fair who was selling mustard and started chatting with him – turns out, he went to AA Heron, Emily’s high school, and knows Emily’s older brothers! What a small world!

| Century Link, the home of the Seahawks and the Sounders |
More fun for the afternoon on the rooftop of a friend’s building, sushi for dinner (YUM), the ultimate activity – a Sounders game! Seattle is serious about their soccer. The Sounders play in the Century Link stadium, same as the Seahawks (which Seattleites are also crazy about). There were over 40,000 people there! Who knew soccer could be so famous in the States. They kept saying “Welcome to North American soccer”, which was hilarious except the fact that the announcer had a British accent. Go figure.
The next day, we had an amazing brunch at Oddfellows, a quirky restaurant very close to Emily and Caroline’s place. I think it’s safe to say we got the true Cap Hill hipster vibe. They made gluten free biscuits with the eggs, so I was over the moon! After that, we went on a lovely walk to Pike Place Market and the Olympic Sculpture Garden.
Thanks Emily and Caroline for a really fun time! Onwards and upwards to Vancouver!
