Fun in Delhi

With the arrival of my internship, I have had the chance to use my evenings to explore Delhi, visit family, and have fun in the hostel.

It's crazy how somethings just work out.  I have been meaning to get together with my cousin, Logan (who lives in Chicago), and his family forever...it turns out, he ended up stopping in Delhi for an evening on his way back from Malaysia last week.  I guess we got to meet - just half way across the world from where I thought our meeting would be!  After my internship, I came to Biji's home and met him there.  We had a wonderful time talking, hanging out with Biji, and eating good food.  Biii was also so happy to have us there.  Here's a great picture of the three of us along with Ms. Raj's granddaugther:

Finally, I got to do something I have been wanting to do...go to an Indian cinema!  My friends Sumbul and I went to PVR Plaza and saw the new movie Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (which literally means "one of me and one of you").  It was a typical bollywood love story...the heroine in the movie was Kareena Kapoor, who is one of my favorites.  I am proud to say, I understood 90% of the movie!

I also got to spend the weekend with Biji, go shopping with one of my aunts, Babli, and spend the day with another one of my aunts, Gudi.  I call them both "bua" which means paternal aunt.  I got new jeans with Babli Bua...good thing because my other pair had holes in them (too much information..sorry).  Gudi Bua's family lives fairly close to Biji, so it was a short journey to their home.  Her oldest son and his wife live there as well with their 19 month old daughter and 2 month old son (he is SOOOO small!).

My last piece of news: I DROVE A CAR!  Yes, it's true!  I drove on the streets of Delhi! Okay, it was not the most crowded street, but a real street nonetheless.  I took the metro to visit my cousin, Monu, and his wife Yakshi and 5 year old daughter Kamya.  When Monu Bhaiya picked me up from the metro station, he told me I should drive home.  I drive a manual transmission at home so I knew the basics, but it was difficult getting used to everything being opposite (they drive on the left side of the road, so that means the accelerator, brake and clutch are all on the opposite side as well!).  Monu Bhaiya said he would give me some more lessons and maybe next time I come to India I can apply for a drivers licence.   Woo!
